Could this be the Best Bred Filly on the Planet?
In a few months, Australian broodmares will start having babies. And among them will be the first one’s sired by the unbeaten superstar JUSTIFY. But before we get to see them, the world is seeing almost daily, brand new babies born by Justify in North America and Europe. And one born last night might just be the best bred filly on the planet.
That’s based on the premise the horse known in America as “a towering muscular Adonis of a horse” is as good in the barn as he was on the track. Coolmore and the China Horse Club who bought him as a baby for US$500,000, jointly own Justify now – he who won 6 from 6 including the Triple Crown of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. He’s the ONLY unbeaten winner of the Triple Crown in history.
Bob Baffert trained him and called him “a super great horse who could do anything.” And his track performances, those sort of comments, his own pedigree and his physique have made him the most boomed horse to go to stud since SECRETARIAT.
Indeed just last year look at the prices mares in foal to him fetched: US$3,200,000, US$1,250,000, US$1,200,000, US$1,100,000, US$955,000, US$900,000, US$850,000, US$850,000, US$800,000, US$775,000, US$700,000, US$700,000, US$650,000, US$600,000, US$600,000, etc.
They are the ones giving birth right now and as mentioned above, one born last night might be the pick of them on pedigree. The filly is from the Gr 1 winning mare CLEMMIE (Galileo-Meow). Actually juts labelling her that is a disservice. Clemmie was Champion 2YO Filly in Europe in 2017. As a precocious baby she won the prestigious Gr 1 race Newmarket Cheveley Park Stakes, and the Gr 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes and the Gr 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes in Ireland.
But this baby’s attributes don’t stop at both parents being Gr 1 winning Champions. They simply start. Her mum’s family tree is out of this world.
The babies grand dam, Meow (Storm cat-Airwave) like Clemmie, won the Grangecon Stud Stakes in Ireland and was Gr 2 placed. As a broodie she in 2017 was awarded Ireland’s Broodmare Of The Year gong, following the deeds of her superstar son CHURCHILL (by Galileo) who was Champion 2YO Colt in Europe, then Champion 3YO of Ireland and England as well as Champion 3YO Miler of the World. He won 4 x Gr 1 races. Churchill is a Full-Brother to Clemmie. It’s a nick that is proving irrepressible.
